Supervised Marriages

This is the only religious program in Israel that enables special-needs couples to marry and live as a couple according to Torah guidelines. The program includes confirming the compatibility of the couple and their eligibility for married life. They are then prepared for marriage, and once they are living together, they are provided with continuous guidance and support.

At Alei Siach, we view this program as one of our greatest successes. It was established out of our deep familiarity with the needs of special-needs adults. After much consultation with both Rabbanim and experts in the field, it was decided to establish this unique program where special-needs couples are married through Alei Siach’s initiative.

It is hard to understand how important this program is – until one looks at the glowing faces of these special couples. The weddings, which are attended by the couple’s friends – most of whom have special needs themselves – are such beautiful and emotional events, it’s impossible to remain indifferent. The circles of dancing at these wedding epitomize the essence of true, pure joy.

Professional who are guiding us in this unique project repeatedly emphasize that an Alei Siach wedding contributes to the progress of all the special-needs individuals who partake in the happy event because it gives them something to hope for. Even if they themselves will never marry, it encourages them that in their special-needs world, people like them can reach what Judaism considers one of the happiest days of a person’s life. Now they too can pray and hope to be numbered among those who merit to build a Jewish home.

Today our program includes married couples and couples in stages of marriage training. Our professional staff examines each case with utmost care to see whether marriage is a suitable option. In situations where it does not yet (if at all) seem possible, we help individuals channel their desires to find significance and purpose in their lives in other, constructive and meaningful ways.

The program has received lots of praise from the professionals guiding us in this complex endeavor. It has also evoked tremendous interest from parents concerned for their special-needs children’s futures, as well as from professionals in Israel and all over the world who are eager to study this successful model.
